Yifan is now a Professor in River Engineering at Wuhan University, China, and an awardee of NSFC Grant for Excellent Young Scientist Overseas. He is now taking the initiative advancing our knowledge in sediment scour, sediment transport, and, more broadly, various natural and societal hazards associated with water and sediment, as well as effective ways for disaster mitigation and governance.
Before joining WHU, Yifan was a Lecturer/Assistant Professor in Hydraulic Engineering at the University of Waikato, located in Hamilton - Kirikiriroa, a peaceful small city in the Central North Island of New Zealand. It is where Yifan kickstarted his exciting academic career and met a whole bunch of young, enthusiastic local and international students, and plenty of talented scholars with diverse backgrounds. This phase constructed the cornerstone of Yifan’s aspirations.
Before UoW, Yifan was a postdoc researcher at the University of Auckland, and, in parallel, a professional civil engineer at Wellington Water, the authority of three waters development in the Greater Wellington Region, Te Whanganui-a-Tara. The hybrid experience brought Yifan unique visions of how researchers and practitioners work together and strive for common goals. Nothing beats Wellington on a good day - when it is not having crazy wind, rainfall, and earthquake.
Yifan got his PhD degree in Civil Engineering from the University of Auckland, Tāmaki Makaurau, where he met his wife, got married, and treasured as the second home. Further earlier, Yifan got his Master in Harbour, Coastal and Offshore Engineering and Bachelor in Harbour, Waterway and Coastal Engineering, both from Hohai University, located in Nanjing, Yifan’s hometown.
Hey, on the right is my official CV. It is not always up-to-date, but I’ll try to get it done regularly. Hope you guys enjoy it. Cheers
